  • Any plans for tonight?
Posted on 30 June 2007 in C-md, Wanatoe and Z33
In case you don't have anything planned for tonight yet, you should consider going to Z33 in Hasselt. They've got quite an interesting event planned, starting with the Wanatoe master thesis prize. Two fellow C-md students (Nicky and Jan) made it to the twelve nominees and are competing with a variety of other art students that just graduated. I' .. read more
  • Web analytics TV (three comments)
Posted on 26 June 2007 in Google, Analytics and Screencast
I'm a web stats fanatic, but I know too little about how to actually analyse those statistics in order to improve results. Somehow I could never really motivate myself enough to take a closer look. Lately however I started experimenting with some of the sites I author, trying to optimise them as much as possible. I actually enjoyed exploring the .. read more
  • No longer a student (two comments)
Posted on 24 June 2007 in C-md and School
I used to say exactly the same sentence some three years ago, but I'm pretty sure this time it's for real. Well, I did already subscribe to a Swedish language course, but that's evening school only. Friday's master thesis presentation probably was my very last day ever as a regular student. I've got mixed feelings about the C-MD (pre-)master pr .. read more
  • The iPod has got a new owner (one comment)
Posted on 23 June 2007 in Ipod and Job
You probably already know Leen won the iPod shuffle giveaway a few weeks ago, as she suggested the job I recently landed. While I was at school today (we presented our master thesis projects to the Wanatoe jury), I was able to officially (handing out prizes always requires some ceremony) hand her the prize. Have fun with the iPod Leen, and than .. read more
  • Interactive television
Posted on 20 June 2007 in Interactive and Television
Once in a while a new television program is aired in which viewers are able to interact. In most of those cases, interactivity means pushing the red button in order to vote or participate in some kind of a quiz. Obviously, you do need some new hardware and a special subscription. But hey, interactivity comes with a price. Well does it? Yesterda .. read more
  • Vacation plans changed (one comment)
Posted on 17 June 2007 in Vacation, Travel, Norway and Scandinavia
Yesterday we decided to change our vacation plans and I'm really thrilled about it. We originally planned a ten day visit to Switzerland but we figured we'd better go for a longer trip this summer, as we both have two months off (Sabine is doing an extra specialisation year and I only need to start working in September). We dropped the Switzerl .. read more
  • Do you track your own name? (five comments)
Posted on 14 June 2007 in Youtube, Last.fm and Tim Bormans
I know this title may sound a little narcistic, but read this story. A few weeks ago Tim - who is one of my C-MD classmates - created this very cool Last.fm / YouTube mashup at tv.timbormans.com. LastTube (that's what he called it) allows you to create your own personal music television channel, either by entering your own Last.fm account or a f .. read more
  • Signed my contract this morning (twelve comments)
Posted on 11 June 2007 in Job and Nocus
It took quite a while to decide, but I finally signed my contract this morning. As of September, I will be joining the Nocus team as a Strategic Account Manager. It sure was quite hard to choose between some of the awesome jobs I was offered during the last few months. I somehow felt like a small boy in a toy shop, not knowing what to pick. How .. read more
  • We live in great times (two comments)
Posted on 8 June 2007 in Photosynth, Seadragon, Microsoft and Surface
Although I was pretty impressed by some of the demo videos I saw a few months ago, I never really gave Photosynth a try. I do have a Windows Dell computer, but I actually only use it to check whether my new sites work well with Windows browsers (read Internet Explorer). Whenever I come accross a cool Windows-only app, I just convince myself it's .. read more
  • Want a job in online media? Your timing is great
Posted on 5 June 2007 in Job and Stats
Robert last night pointed me to an Advertising Age article which will probably sound like good news to anyone graduating or looking for something new. According to the article, US employment at internet media companies last month reached 40.000 (which I consider to be a rather low number anyway). While the current rise started at 28.200 in Dece .. read more
  • Privacy anyone? (nine comments)
Posted on 4 June 2007 in Privacy, Google and Maps
Still not convinced privacy is dead? Just check Google Map's awesome Street View functionality.
  • Have you Googled yourself lately? (one comment)
Posted on 2 June 2007 in Ego-marketing, Google and Ungoogleable
Apparently 18% of the people participating with the poll on CVverificatie.nl (which is a site aiming at Dutch HR professionals) always Google an applicant's name. 68% does so depending on the job. I'll just assume that means "in case of IT/communications kinds of jobs". In other words: if you're an internet/multimedia graduate looking for a job, .. read more
